Background Information
The total population of the province of Almería is 685.000 people. 496.000 people live in the metropolitan area, and 189.000 live in the capital. The province has other towns with relatively high population, as El Ejido and Roquetas de Mar, with approximately 100,000 habitants, in opposite there are otherwise remote villages of the province with less than 1,000 people.

The city centre is located in the geographic coordinates 36º 50' N, 2º 28' W. It has an extension of 296 km2 and an average height of 6 meters over the sea. Almería is one of the sunniest cities in Europe. Almería enjoy a inframediterranean climate, characterized by the absence of frost and low rainfall.

The average annual temperature is 18,7ºC, while average summer temperature is around 23,1ºC. It is possible to get maximum temperatures of 42ºC under the sun in July and August.

The average temperature in winter is 14ºC. It is not usual minimum temperatures under 8ºC. The rains are scanty, with an annual average of 196 l/sqm. In average, the city presents approximately 2970 annual hours of sunlight. It exist few differences between the winter months and the summer ones. Almería has an airport placed to approximately 10 km to the E of the city centre and a fluvial port placed to the South. It not exist big industries in the surroundings. The major environmental problems come derived from the road traffic.
