Background Information
The total population of the province of Seville is 1.7 million people. 1.2 million people live in the
metropolitan area, 700,000 of them live in the capital. The province has other towns with relatively high
population, as Dos Hermanas and Alcala de Guadaira, with more than 100,000 habitants, in opposite of the villages
of the North and South of the province that have no more than 3,000 people.
The city centre is located in the geographic coordinates 37º 23' N, 5º 58' W. It has an extension of 50 km2 and
an average height of 10 meters over the sea. The city has more than 640 hectares of green zones.
Seville has a moderate-hot Mediterranean climate with oceanic influences. They are few climatic oscillations:
long and hot summers and templates winters.
The average annual temperature is 17ºC, while average summer temperature is around 27ºC. It is possible to get
maximum temperatures of 46ºC under the sun in July and August.
The average temperature in winter is 12ºC. It is not usual minimum temperatures under 2ºC. The rains are
moderated or scanty, with an annual average of 578 l/sqm.
In average, the city presents approximately 250 monthly hours of sunlight. It exist few differences between
the winter months (200 hours a month) and the summer ones (350 hours a month). Seville has an airport placed to
approximately 7 km to the NE of the city centre and a fluvial port placed to the South. It not exist big
industries in the surroundings. The major environmental problems come derived from the road traffic.
