Environmental Situation
With a high population density and significant industrial and port-related development make Upper Normandy and the Seine estuary an "at-risk" area in terms of air quality: the result is one of the highest levels of sulphur dioxide emissions in France. This explains why one of the first monitoring systems was built there during the seventies. Now, other pollutants, linked to road traffic, for example, are also permanently tracked.
