Air Quality Improvement
The council of Amsterdam has decided in 2006 to implement an Action Program on Air Quality which exist of 50 actions. The council has reserved 15 million Euro's for the period 2006-2010.

The main goal of the Action Program is to get rid of all exceedances in 2010. The 50 actions (in Dutch) can be found at www.gezondelucht.amsterdam.nl.

The main reductions of polluting emissions are expected to come from implementing a large environmental zone for heavy duty vehicles. Furthermore, the local government will extend the areas where people have to pay for parking their vehicles. The first results of one of the actions has come from a speed reduction on the westerly ring road from 100 to 80 kilometers per hour. This results in a reduction on smaller particles such as PM1 and Black Smoke. A report on the effect of this measure can be found (In Dutch) at www.amsterdam.nl.
